A long trip for Reliant...He was one of the victims of Katrina, and luckily was saved then somehow found his way to Central Illinois and his foster family. That foster family is none other than David Dodd, owner of Invisible Fence of Springfield. Now, Reliant is one very smart dog and he proves it while traveling around Central Illinois to visit with local Fire Departments, teaching them how to use the equipment donated by David's company to help save the pets who have been traumatized or injured in house fires. Tuesday Reliant came to Havana and here is the rest of the story...

PETS TO BREATHE EASIER IN MASON COUNTY

The Havana Fire Department and the Havana Rural Fire Protection District each received a donation that will help prevent pets from falling victim to smoke inhalation due to fire.

Invisible Fence of Springfield donated oxygen recovery mask kits for pets to the Havana Fire Department and Havana Rural Fire Protection District on Tuesday and plans to donate additional kits to other local fire departments.

"We hope that by donating oxygen mask kits that we will save more pets' lives and prevent the heartbreak of losing a family pet". said David Dodd, owner of Invisible Fence of Springfield.

It is estimated that in 2006, more than 40,000 pets died in fires; most succumbed to smoke inhalation. In most states, emergency responders are unequipped to deal with the crisis. The donation of these specially designed and potentially lifesaving animal oxygen mask sets will enable Havana area firefighters to efficiently administer oxygen to a stricken animal.

"We want to thank Invisible Fence for their generosity and believe that these kits will help us save more pets. In the past we have had several dogs and cats that possibly could have been saved had these kits been available to us," said John Kachanuk, Chief of the Havana Fire Department.

For more information about the Invisible Fence animal recovery mask donation program please contact Laura Wright, Donation Coordinator, at 800-968-2909 ext 14 or email her at lwright@ifcojgb.com . You can also visit the Invisible Fence of Springfield website.
